We offer a special rate for small writing groups looking for a peaceful, writing-focused getaway. Personalized workshops are also available (see below). Writing groups are welcome to use Dickinson House’s open reading and writing area (upstairs) and the common room on the ground floor.
Our gardens, grounds, and restful, well-lit rooms are a perfect space to concentrate on writing for a while. Home-cooked meals, a library of small-press and trade books, and space for workshopping complete the picture—but of course just how you use our space is up to you.
Rates for writing groups:
All rates for three rooms (three adults; no children)
Room and half board (breakfast) €180/night
Room and full board (breakfast and dinner) €240/night
Writing groups have access to downstairs common areas, including refrigerator. No barbecues are permitted. Dickinson House is not available for stag- or hen-parties. Minimum stay is two nights.
Booking a workshop:
Would you like to make a workshop part of your group’s weekend away? Éireann Lorsung, residency coordinator for Dickinson House, has ten years’ experience teaching creative writing. A writer herself, she is currently working on a novel about the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
From 2009 until 2012 Éireann was the director of the Nottingham Poetry Series, where she taught bookmaking, poetry, manuscript preparation, and literature in the community. Feedback from workshop participants:
“It’s hard to isolate what has been the most valuable aspect, simply because I feel that the elements have all been intertwined. I’d say it’s the revelation of so much possibility—in reading/writing/making/moving.”
“The most valuable thing I got from the course was that I rediscovered the fun in poetry. Thank you!”
“I’ve attended various Arvon [a UK literary organization] courses before, and with BIG names—but I’ve never experienced more thorough preparation or been so inspired.”
“Highly professional, focused, challenging. Tutor driven by her desire for the blossoming of her students.”
“Éireann is an amazing teacher and an exceptional poet. She has the rare ability to truly inspire her students to strive for excellence.”
“The course has made me feel like ‘I make art’.”
If you’d like a glimpse at Éireann’s teaching style, you can listen to this podcast, available through the University of Iowa’s Writing University.
Dickinson House offers three kinds of workshops. All workshops are two hours long, and cost €90.

Generative—focused on getting participants to create new work
Reading-based—discussion of and writing exercises based on a provided work
