Writers working in all genres and areas are welcome at Dickinson House. Accommodation is provided in three well-lit, simple rooms which are outfitted with desks as well as comfortable chairs for reading. Writers are welcome to avail themselves of our library of books (including many small-press books and literary journals) or to propose a collaborative publishing project for their time here. Your only obligations while you are in residence at Dickinson House are to do what you need to do to make your work, and to show up for the evening meal, which is communal.
About our residencies
Our mission is to support writers at work by providing space and time away from the distractions and responsibilities of their daily lives (as well as making sure they get the baked goods of their preference).
We want the writers who stay at Dickinson House to feel absolutely free to do their work: to read, write, walk, move, sleep; to sit under the trees; to enjoy good conversation; to be silent. To that end, Dickinson House residencies include full board (three meals per day) and linen service once a week.
We take your writing seriously, and we take our support of it seriously. We also take community seriously: while Dickinson House is a place for your work and ours, we’re aiming to build something together with our residents. (If your perfect writing retreat is monkish silence on a Hebridean island, attended only by the cries of gulls, you might not find Dickinson House ideal.)
Residencies are open to all writers, regardless of publication history, but Dickinson House does operate on an application basis. Details on the application process are here.
Rates for writers’ and artists’ residencies (including three meals per day)
One week €805 (€115/day), including 40-minute manuscript consultation or coaching session.
Two weeks €1280 (€91/day)
Four weeks €2100 (€75/day)
We regret that family members, partners, and pets cannot be accommodated at Dickinson House. Couples who would like to be in residence together should apply separately with a note on each application. We cannot guarantee that couples will be accepted together. Rooms are strictly single-occupancy. For collaborative work (up to three people), submit one residency application.
