Fellowship information

2017 Fellowship applications will open in summer 2016 and close in September 2016. The juries will be announced in the spring. Click here for guidelines. Apply here.

In 2017, we will offer two fellowships, both for writers.

  1. Fellowship for writers residing in areas with a population of fewer than 300,000 people. (When live, application link will be here. Applications that do not arrive via this link will be read as applications for the general fellowship.)
  2. Fellowship for any writer, anywhere. (When live, application link will be here.)

We will also offer a number of grants (in the form of fee reductions) in 2017.

  1. The Raveel Grant is awarded to applicants to whose work the jury is especially drawn but who are not awarded a fellowship. Jury members recommend (anonymized) applications for this grant. Several Raveel Grants will be awarded, although the number varies by year. The Raveel Grant in 2017 is equivalent to €500.

Fellowship applications will be live from May 15 until September 15, 2016 (Belgian time).

From May 15 until May 30 (Belgian time), there will be no fee for applying for a fellowship. From May 31 until September 15, the fee for fellowship applications will be €15 (about $17).

Each fellowship application constitutes application for residency.

Fellowships cover room and board for two weeks. Writers and artists are responsible for their own travel expenses and any incidentals.

There is at this time no endowment or other grant to sustain fellowships. Fellowships are a remission of fees and praxis of the theory that it is a duty as a writer to support other writers and artists materially, providing time and space as one is able. The cost of fellowships is also sustained by the presence of residents who have paid for their time at Dickinson House.

Fellowships are available regardless of publication/exhibition history, and are offered based on need, merit, and promise. A jury of writers and editors will evaluate writing applications; a group of working artists will evaluate visual arts applications. Apply here.
